International animated film workshop was held this year from
June 4th to 11th.
This time the workshop leaders were Andrey
Koulev from Bulgaria and Jean-Luc
Slock from Belgium. They worked with near to
twenty children from Russian town Yaroslavl and several places
in Croatia and realized two short animated films: STRUDLSAFt, made
in technique of drawings on paper and computer and TOONS
IN TOWN made as a combination of video, photographs
and cut-out characters.
Both films were very successfully presented at the special screening
on the last day of the workshop (and as a part of programs at 44th
Croatian Children Film Festival, which was held from June 8th to 11th,
whit participation of over 200 young filmmakers from all parts of Croatia).
The workshop leaders also presented their films at the screening which
was held straight after opening program of Children Film Festival,
on Thursday, June 8th.
During whole week all participants and guests could enjoy in artworks,
drawings from films and story boards of famous hungarian animator and
illustrator Péter Szoboslay. The exhibition was also later presented
at Zagreb World Festival of animated films (June 12th to 18th), where
two kids from Yaroslavl and two members of ŠAF were members of international
children jury.

Andrey Koulev
was born on June 16th 1973 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
He graduated the National Art School specializing in illustration
in 1991 and TV and Film Directing major at the National Academy
for Theatre and Film in the course of prof. Vladislav Ikonomov.
Among his works from these studies are: "The Lovers" '92; "Some
Important Stories Told Around A Table" (TV) '95; "The Locksmith"
'97 and others. He also directed and animated "Reflection", which
won the Debut Prize at the National Film Festival in Varna '96.
In 1997 he is among the winners in the MTV "Minute Cinema" Competition.
He wrote and directed "Full Moon". In 2003 he produced and direct
the animated film "Poet and Pegasus", written by Hristo Ganev (2003).
He participated in caricature exhibitions in Bulgaria, Turkey, Norway,
Canada, Italy and Japan, designed posters for the many stage plays
and films and created TVCs and TV spots. His works were published
in many Bulgarian newspapers. He illustrated more than 30 books. Since
1990 he has been designing and illustrating the literary magazine
"Ah, Maria".
Andrey Koulev directed the stage play "The night of
Helver" from Ingmar Wilkist and created the animation for the stage
play "The Cuckoo" from Elin Rahnev, both in National Theater "Ivan
Vazov".
He directed the TV film "The House" (27 min) which won the Galya
Batchvarova Prize at the Golden Chest Festival in 2004.
